As promised, here is the second and final part to my recent road trip to LA.

I have to admit that I’m not in the same mood I was in yesterday when I posted Part 1. I was in a much happier place then. Last night and most of today has been a painful struggle. Suffice it to say that… Well, I suppose some people just don’t have a heart…

But thinking back at this trip, the quiet moments of contemplation, the peace, the smell of the ocean water, the sand between my toes, the sound of the crashing waves, the inescapable awe for the architecture, and best of all, my friends Brittany and Lizel, together with all the jokes we made and the laughs we had; that helps.

Because it reminds me that there are still wonderful things to behold in this world and that there are still good people. There are still great memories to be made.

So here’s to you Brittany and Lizel, for making this vacation the best I’ve ever had.

It’s been far, FAR too long since I last went on a road trip.

A proper road trip.

And there’s no way I could have gone had it been scheduled for even as little as a few weeks earlier.

Plus, I could feel myself burning out on wedding season about a month ago, so I’m glad it was my good friend Brittany’s 30th birthday on September 12th (Happy Birthday!!). She grew up in LA, oh and Disneyland is in LA, so naturally, she chose LA as the destination, invited me and Lizel, one of her friends (now also one of MY friends), to come along.

We were only there for a weekend, with two full days spent driving and being within close quarters in my little Civic. Technically I think that’s asking for trouble :)

But oh the fun we had! Every picture I’m posting, even the ones I’m not, have a story of their own. Maybe next time I could have another dude come along though. You know, just to balance things out a little.

Still, it’s no contest…

Best.

Road trip.

EVAR!!!

First we settled into the hotel after an 11-hour day on the road…

Then we headed out for some grub. Lizel was so excited for Sunday’s trip to Disneyland that she pulled out the map and started planning.

Then on the last day, Disneyland! Now, I’m not a huge fan (I much prefer Six Flags so I can be flung three miles into the atmosphere at twice the speed of sound), but in great company, everything is fun, and Disneyland was no exception.

I’ll be posting my favorite day of the road trip tomorrow, with beaches, architecture and good-old-fashioned weirdness, so stay tuned for that!

I don’t shoot as much film as I’d like to have time for, so yeah I’ve got a shot from as far back as when I was in Rome.

Rome’s Amphitheater. I’m starting to think that it’s not how crappy the Holga is supposed to be, it’s the way the film was loaded. I really don’t know what this thing is doing…

Right up by Millcreek Canyon on a beautiful (and rare) rainy day.

A lonely, less trodden path.

This was from a trip to Antelope Island from a while back. I like this first one. It feels like we’re looking up, but I was actually looking down a road back to the mainland.

Managed to get close to a buffalo. I wasn’t that brave, I stayed in my car.

And then he stopped to look at me…

And I can’t help it, I had to caption it haha

This is why I’ve always assumed that most of the people who take a picture a day don’t have any actual work to do; I can’t keep up and I haven’t even reached the height of wedding season yet… How do people do this?

I jumped into this picture-a-day commitment after I heard that a prominent, very busy photojournalist did do this himself. Not to mention watching other highly successful commercial photographers do the same, and do it way better than I seem to manage. But I figured, hey, if they can do it, so can I. It’ll be at my level of photography, but I can do this.

I’m still doing it, but I’m struggling to keep up. I’ll keep at it though. I have no intention on quitting.

Anyway, here’s the ones from April 24th, 25th and 26th:

Day 86/365

As the title implies, I worked with Dani again. We’d actually planned the shoot for that day (the 7th) weeks ahead of time, while the one from a few days back (the 4th) was last minute. That’s my excuse at least.

I tried doing some natural light stuff and it really didn’t work out… Like, at all… It’s making me want to get to the point where I can do it well, so I’ll probably try again in the future.

And then I turned my lights back on… Ahhhhh… The control…

Day 87/365

I honestly didn’t think Quincy was gonna show up! Communication had been touch and go, but I was glad when I heard a knock on my door.

Also from that day, I took this shot of my cologne… Why? Because I was in my bathroom getting ready, I look down to my cologne and then realize… I have the most pretentious, arrogant cologne on the planet!

I promise, I really just bought it because I liked how it smelled!

Day 88/365

I’ve never bought a Seventeen Magazine in my life. That day, I did. And that’s because I’ve been published in it! Woohoo!!

Look for this photo in Seventeen’s May issue, which I shot in the summer of last year:

Day 13/365

Is the thirteenth day supposed to be bad luck? Man I’m glad I’m not superstitious!

Foggy day today.

Had to include that one. Thought it was kinda funny :)
