I recently moved my studio background gear from my cramped little basement, with a ceiling so low that when I reach up I can lay my hand flat on it, to my garage, where the only way I could touch the ceiling is if I stood on my car’s roof.

Or, you know, on a ladder or something.

But so it’s given me a ton more space than I used to have. And with models 5’8″ and taller, it helps to have both the vertical space and the depth to get the shots I want. I have no clue why I didn’t do this sooner, but here I am now.

And here’s Ashley, my first guest in my cold garage (I’ll be getting a space heater when they’re back in season):

This wonderful couple’s engagements were so much fun, I couldn’t help but eagerly anticipate their wedding day. Here are some of my favorite shots, among which lies probably one of my favorite ring shots of all time.

The top of a step ladder, forcefully stating “NOT A STEP”… Then the rings, sitting in front, begging to differ! hahaha!

Ok, here we go.

Wil & Ashley:

I had a roll of undeveloped film from back when I was in NYC, so I finished it on Wil & Ashley and my boys.

First, the really touching picture of Wil & Ashley:

The gorgeously simple Guggenheim museum:

A bridge in Central Park:

Back home, my oldest, Gabe:

And a little something different to finish off.

I hardly have any pictures of myself. I think that’s true of most photographers actually, and although I can’t speak for all of them, I know my share, myself included, who don’t like their appearance. Maybe that’s why we prefer to stay behind the camera. I know it’s the main reason for me.

Anyway… Enjoy a rare little glimpse of myself in pictures.

Mason took a shot of me with my Holga:

And yesterday evening at a wedding, a guest took my camera and decided I should be in this group picture. I wasn’t about to object to being surrounded by six beautiful women! What I wasn’t expecting however, was the girls deciding they’d pick me up!! Why OH WHY didn’t I just smile?!?!?!

This wedding was such a blast! I’ll be posting more of it soon (I still need to post the pictures from the Vegas wedding). At the end of the evening when the party stopped, the bride just said “You’re off the clock! You can go home if you want, but we’d love to have you stay and hang out with everyone.”

So I did :)

I ended up mingling with a whole bunch of cool people, playing a few exciting games of foosball and then finally calling it a night after being invited to take one of these beautiful stones home with me:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

I LOVE my job.

Day 28/365

From the first time I worked with Ashley, I knew there was a lot of potential. She just had the right look for a model and a tremendous personality.

Yes, that makes a huge difference for me.

Have you ever seen an ad with Paris Hilton in it? I have. She has that same air of superiority, the same dumb look in her eyes and the same infuriating smirk on her face that you’re used to seeing everywhere else she appears. I had to quickly flip the page before my eyes caught on fire.

No amount of Photoshopping in the world can fix a lousy attitude.

But when Ashley and I did first shoot together, things didn’t turn out quite the way I’d hoped. I wasn’t quite as excited about the results as I was with the opportunity to have worked with her. We did get what I thought was a great headshot, but I felt like she was better than that.

So hopefully, with today’s shoot, I’ve finally managed to do her justice.

THE happiest accident of all time. She blinked while doing something I hadn’t directed her to do right as I took the shot. I have never, ever, EVER, EEEEVVER caught a blink that worked for me. Ever.

But this… Oh my… This works…
