It wasn’t until I was working close-up on his eyes on my giant monitor that I noticed Ryan had differently colored eyes! I never had a clue before that, and my first thought once I did notice it was “Ah crap! What did the camera do?!” so I started looking at all the other shots and couldn’t find one with as striking a difference between each eye.
But then that’s why Ryan selected the first image as his printed headshot. As an up-and-coming actor recently moved to Salt Lake City, he wanted to make that obvious to any potential employer.

It can’t just be me… Emma looks a lot like Jennifer Aniston to everyone else right?! Especially that square image!
Jason and Emma were so much fun to work with. And lucky too; good light followed us everywhere we went despite threatening skies in the morning.
What can I say about Dani?
Dani is my close friend. That’s the first thing that comes to my mind. We have a good, solid friendship that I’ve cherished since it began.
A talented model with whom I’ve worked many, many times, she’s finally moving to L.A. in just a few short months to pursue a career in acting. Now I can’t say I’m crazy about L.A., but I’m unapologetically excited for her to leave Utah in pursuit of far greater heights than I feel she could ever have reached here.
Man am I gonna miss her…
Because beyond all of that, she’s full of life, full of energy and positivity, and best of all, it’s infectious. You can’t help but feel better when you’re around her. You can’t help but turn into a goofball when you’re around her.
Well ok, I can’t help but become a total goofball when I’m around her.
So when she decided to pretend like her hands were having a mostly violent conversation with one another, well…

There’s nothing quite like a little diversity here in Utah. It’s refreshing.
Even luckier for me, these guys were from the Middle-East. So the food was familiar (coussa, fatoush, wara’ anab… mmmmmmm), the language was familiar (I spoke Arabic to them half the time while the other half of the time, my flawless American-English turned into a heavy Arabic accent), the culture was familiar, the generosity was familiar; everything. And once I revealed to them that I was Lebanese, I became a lot less threatening with that giant brick of a camera in my hands.
Felt just like home.
To top it all off, Firas and Emma were, as with all my clients it seems, a dream to work with.

The project continues… Introducing my good friend Lexi!
Lexi works as an event planner at the beautiful and classy Grand America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City.
When I asked her what she wanted to do as the second shot, she quickly decided that she wanted to show off her shoes. She has a TON of them piled sky-high in her closet, so we picked just a teeny tiny selection of her favorites and went outside.

Before I end this blog post, I’d like to clarify something important:
You don’t necessarily have to feel you’re not photogenic to be in this project.
Apparently some people felt they shouldn’t be part of it because they already like themselves in pictures…
So let me completely clarify the two criterion for this project:
You have to be a human being and still be alive.
So if you’re a dead sea-turtle, I’m afraid I can’t help you.
If, on the other hand, you’re a client of any kind (future or past), if you’re an acquaintance, if you’re a friend of a friend, if you’re a complete stranger to me, if you’re an actor, a model, an electrician, a plumber… You get the idea. All are welcome, regardless of how you feel about yourself (photogenic or not).

Fun.
Between their beautiful, low-key backyard reception and their ultra-low-key escape shortly after cutting their cake (they literally sprinted over to the neighbor’s house where the rental car was waiting – all without announcing a single thing to any of the guests), this was a wedding experience all its own. Not to mention Martin had some very inspiring stories to tell of his service in Iraq.
And before I forget…
I’m usually pretty good about staying out of guest’s picture-taking, but I totally walked into that dude’s shot… Sorry about that!

These two were terrific fun. Very natural together and a great sense of humor. I loved their stick figure sign-in book idea!
Oh and at the end of the ceremony, the judge began with the usual “I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. You may now…”
Wait for it…
“…Update your Facebook relationship status.”
I hope I didn’t laugh as loudly as I think I did!

This wonderful couple’s engagements were so much fun, I couldn’t help but eagerly anticipate their wedding day. Here are some of my favorite shots, among which lies probably one of my favorite ring shots of all time.
The top of a step ladder, forcefully stating “NOT A STEP”… Then the rings, sitting in front, begging to differ! hahaha!
