No time to talk, gotta go!!

Day 10 of 365

Saying goodbye to shiny new(-ish), picture-taking gear is as difficult for me to do as it is for women to get rid of Christmas cards after the time has passed… All your friends know it’s time to let go, but you’re not ready yet, are ya.

And neither am I. But it’s time… So long, Canon GL2. I hope your next owner never takes you apart.

Day 9/365

Feeling kind of uninspired today…

Every now and then, I have to force myself to stop working and take a break. So I went to a movie (matinée showings rule!) that I knew my wife wouldn’t care to see. On my way home, I saw this really cool haze. Hadn’t brought my camera with me, so I went home to get it, went back out to the best spot I could find and took some shots.

This was the best of them.

And this is me of course. It’s nice to hide behind a camera :)

Day 8/365

Engagements, bridals, weddings. These are still a reality for me to earn a living. I can’t say I don’t enjoy ‘em though. Honestly, I do. Most of these couples are really quite happy, and cheesy as this may sound, their laughter really is contageous.

This shoot however, felt a bit closer to home. The couple seemed more comfortable not smiling in many of their shots compared to other couples. They reminded me of working with models.

So I went with it.

Day 7/365

I needed a replacement image for my blog button… Then I remembered I didn’t need an image to link to my blog anymore, I could just link people to the blog without forcing them to go through a “content page” anymore…

Good thing too, I wasn’t happy with anything I came up with… The idea with this one was that the red circle would be the clickable portion of the image. I Photoshopped all the trademarks out of there (Fender).

I had tried shooting pictures of my VCR’s remote before this attempt, where the power button would be the clickable portion of the image that would take you to the blog. That turned out to look too busy. I tried arranging a bunch of guitar picks in a circle, but then it just looked like a flower.

Not a great photo day then… oh well, at least my blog link works great now, and I don’t have to use this failure of a picture.

Day 6/365

Almost forgot to post! Here’s a shot of my son, Mason.

I really love this shot of him. Really, really love it.

He’s almost 3 now, which isn’t exactly old, but there’s a strange sense of maturity to it that I haven’t seen in him with any of the shots I’ve taken in the past (and trust me, I’ve taken a lot).

You know how sometimes you look at babies or young kids and you get a glimpse of what they’re gonna be like as adults? That’s what I see in this one.

Day 5/365

My globe, as seen from space.

Day 4/365

Three shots again. I knew I wanted to shoot my chess board yesterday, and I think my focus helped me come up with shots that are a bit more conceptual.

Courage.

200901150001

Duel.

200901150002

Love.

200901150003

Not sure why, but “Love.” is my favorite. I think it’s because I’d never considered the relationship between the King and Queen chess pieces before. And that angle looks… Dare I say it?… Romantic…

Just picture them.

Hands gripped together. Looking forward into imminent battle. Scared. Bracing themselves. Together.

Come on! That’s beautiful!

Yes.

I’m weird.

:D

Day 3/365

200901140001

I remember a long time ago, seeing a picture from a photographer whose work I greatly admired where he’d just taken a shot of the grass. It was a moodier black and white, but I like mine too.

It’s amazing how much more of the world around you, even something as mundane and commonplace as grass, can take a life all its own when seen through the lens of a camera.

Here’s Day 2/365:

Three shots this time. I was just getting done sending out some mail at my local post office and everything just kind of fell into place. Just for me! :)
